How long does my hair need to be for a wax?

The truth is that no one is going to whip out the ruler to measure their hair. We don't even bother with the 'quarter inch' rule. What we do is give you a simple time frame, 3 weeks after a shave or 4 weeks after a wax. BOX does this because we want everyone to walk out with the best wax ever and maybe even save you some bucks.
Your hair doesn't all come up at once, there are about four separate phases of hair growth that we need to ensure have surfaced above the skin before we wax. When people say a 'quarter inch' they are referring to the shortest hair in the area being waxed and clients can mistakenly base the length off of the longest hair, yielding shoddy results. It is advised to mark your calenders so you get on a healthy routine and avoid guessing when booking for your next appointment.

Timing your appointments off of this 3-4 week frame makes for a longer lasting wax with minimal sting and maximum smoothness. Yippee!

So what really happens if you cant wait that long?
Depending on the hair length and type most of the surfaced hair can be removed. The Esthetician may need to go over the same area multiple times making it sensitive. Some hairs will more than likely be too short for the wax to get a good grab on and you will have some shorties left.  Tweezing these stray hairs one by one is a long process that can be uncomfortable in delicate areas.
Beauty sleep after a premature wax can reveal a layer of unsurfaced hair. Even if you leave a salon smooth, you may wake up and find yourself tweezing strays at home or coming in more frequently for waxes. This upsets the pocketbook and its not the best thing for your skin. Waxing too frequently can lead you to ingrown hairs and skin irritation.

944 Editors Pick BOX as Best Place to Take it All Off.

Thanks so much to 944 magazine for the shout out! We love poking our noses into this magazine for what's new and what's now in Vegas. They discuss the often neglected 'nostril wax' and shed some light on our highly anticipated new expansion. (Which is now open, so come in and check it out!

The grand dame of all body waxing boutiques, BOX Human Landscapers has been buttering its bread with Brazilians since opening in 2000

(702) 893-9993

Most if not all premier Bikini Waxing salons do not accept walk-ins, including ourselves. We wish we could but appointments are what keep our world turning in an orderly and timely fashion. Manning the schedule is serious work and we want to make sure that you get in and out of here at a time that works best for you. In order to make sure that happens, we need you to call us as far in advance as humanly possible. Some clients have all of their appointments booked out for the rest of the year. Others call a couple days in advance and just take whatever is available. Everyone has a system that works best for them and thats cool with us.
One thing that helps us all out is to save the BOX Human Landscapers # in your cellphone. You never know when you will remember about the wax you need to get for that special occasion. You might be at the coffee shop or the post office when the thought pops in your head. Better than adding us to that list of things to do when you get home, keep our number handy. If you forget it could be tragic! The last thing we want is for you to wait until the day before you leave to Cancun and for us not to have any availability!!
One last thing to add is that most of us business class ladies have a 9-5 cramping our flexibility. For that very reason, early morning and late afternoon appointments are pretty valuable real estate. Booking your next appointment when you are at the salon is highly advised if you have particular scheduling needs. Its much easier to move an appointment than to try to squeeze one in last minute. Regardless of when you decide to call, we always look forward to hearing from you!!

Everything you need to know about ingrown hairs.

What is an ingrown hair?

An ingrown hair is a hair that has been trapped under the skin.

How do ingrown hairs happen?

It starts off as a normal hair growing in an unsightly place. It grows at a normal pace, it is an average thickness and lives a pretty boring life. In the process of hair removal by  waxing this hair is pulled out at the root. This shocks the follicle and the growth of a new hair is a bit delayed. When a new baby hair forms it’s soft and thin. This hair must crawl before it walks so its quite slow to surface. Your dead skin cells have since collected over the usual exit door creating a barricade that this baby hair just cant push out of the way; thus causing the ingrown hair.

What does an ingrown hair look like?

Sometimes you can see the trapped hair at the center of a bump. Other times an ingrown hair can be just under a layer of skin and look like a splinter. Red or pink bumps, itchiness and inflammation are all signs of ingrown hairs. It is also possible for ingrown hairs to be trapped with bacteria which can result in a pimple. Everyone will get an ingrown hair at some point in their life. There are people that get them only a few times and people who have been struggling with them since puberty.

How do I prevent ingrown hairs?

Choose a waxing salon that specializes in Hard Wax, which is less likely to break hairs than traditional Soft Wax also known as Speed Wax. Settle for nothing less than the highest standards in sterility. An antiseptic ointment should be applied immediately after a wax to prevent bacteria from entering open pores. In the shower use an exfoliating towel or loofa to slough dead skin cells and prevent them from collecting. If you already know that your skin regularly produces ingrown hairs you can apply an ingrown treatment. YES, there are products that have been created for this very situation! You can find those products here at BOX. We are here to help.

I'm on my cycle, can I still get a wax?

The phone rings.... its you. I say hello and you tell me that you HAVE to cancel because you started your period. I assure you- it's not the first time that I've heard that one.

It is true that you can still be waxed on your period as long as you have the right... equipment in place. Don't feel obligated to call in and report your status. It doesn't change the job at hand in the slightest. If you are totally mortified by the thought of your Esthetician seeing your tampon string, we get it. Just know that it doesn't phase her. She is a temple of unsqueemishness and professionalism. She is just concerned with giving you that phenomenal Brazilian Wax to write home about.Your secret is safe with her.

One thing to note is that our bodies have a much lower pain tolerance when Aunt Flow is in town.If you are a flincher like me, this may not be your best time for a Bikini Wax. If you are feeling confident and nothing can stop you from coming in, you may want to pop an OTC  like Ibuprofen an hour before your service just in case.

My bits have been lasered. Do I get a deal?

In the nicest way humanly possible... the answer is no; not that we don't admire and appreciate your less hairy bits.

We get people of all ages, shapes and degrees of hairiness. Pricing is not based on the number of hairs we remove but the time it takes to get you to hairless perfection. Estheticians have to go through the same motions and use the same amount of product as any ol' wax.
